TOWN OF 1770 DISCOVERY COAST QUEENSLAND

TOWN OF 1770

DISCOVERY COAST

QUEENSLAND

1770 is not just a year, it is an important part of Australian history. It also is a town. 1770 is located in close proximity to Agnes Waters, another costal town on the Discovery Coast. 1770 and Agnes Waters are known as twin towns and their beginnings are similar, they started as costal villages. Both towns are proud of their fabulous beaches and scenery. Plentiful walk-ways offering fresh ocean air and panoramic vistas.

1770 is well known for James Cook's visit that year in Endeavour. He did ship maintenance as well as climbed a hill to see a passage through the reef, now Great Barrier Reef stretching along the Queensland coast for over a 1000 miles.

1770 is a unique and relaxed visitor destination. Both history and scenery are outstanding. No wonder that the community celebrates History & Culture of the region once a year with a festival.

Swimming and beach walking are rewarding!

FRASER ISLAND K'GARI QUEENSLAND

FRASER ISLAND

K'GARI

QUEENSLAND

Fraser Island, stretching from Sandy Cape in the North to Inskeep Point in the South, has recently been named in the Indigenous language of the region K'Gari, meaning Paradise. The wildlife of the island is protected, especially dingoes with their traditional name wongari. However, tourism bringing money to a few settlements is effecting their safety.

Back in the early 80's Lindy Chamberline has been imprisoned for killing her daughter Azaria. It was a wrongful conviction, but back then it was unheard of a dingo attacking children. Well, visitors to K'Gari keep on feeding dingoes and those wild animals have been declared dangerous.

The solution is simple, do not feed dingoes.

The bigger danger are 4wheel drives hooning on the sandy beaches and polluting the air. In late 80's a girl sunbathing on a towel has been killed by a speeding 4wheel drive. In spite of the tragedy they continue to hoon coming to conclusion sunbathing is not healthy and she would be a victim of melanoma anyway.

So what can be done to protect beautiful K'Gari & its original inhabitants wongari.

Probably limit number of visitors and make sure they leave their cars on the mainland.

Everybody would enjoy peace and quiet and fresh air.

BUNDABERG

&

BURNETT RIVER

Bundaberg is more than just a rural town. Although heading up to town center up the Burnett River the scenery is definitely rural. Passing sugar cane fields and thriving birdlife brings everyone closer to nature.

Burnett Heads established in 1880s is a township at the river mouth some 15 kms away by road. While driving one passes Bundaberg Distillery famous for production of Bundaberg Rum, as well as Mon Repos a turtle century.

Bargara is a beach costal settlement quickly becoming a township of its own. Bundaberg is also a great fishing center accommodating many trawlers and fishing boats. Bundaberg Port Marina caters for sailing boats. It is backed by colorful sunsets.

Moonrises on the river are impressive as well.
